Mastering your Market class

For a lil birthday present for yours truly I signed up for the Mastering Your Market online textile design course! This six week course will cover the basics of working in the three major markets of the textile business. I am looking forward to being in "school" again and learning new things, making more artwork, and thinking strategically.  I stumbled across the class on the website Pattern Observer There will be more posts to follow with my progress! Check it out if you are looking for the next step in designing textiles.

Inspiration for my first backbeat in the apparel industry.... trends of sartorial surrealism, old masters with a pop twist, floral disruption, and line drawings.

The exhibition that completes my life

As far as I am concerned I never have to step foot in a museum or gallery again. My life is complete after seeing the Matisse retrospective at the MOMA in NYC of his "Jazz Cut Outs" These have been my favorite works of art pretty much since the day I first learned about them.  I have seen a few here and there at the Tate and the MOMA. But seeing them all together in one space from the first one he made to the stain glass windows of his final project... was something spectacular! Even though it was crowded (of course!) everyone viewing the work seemed to be in shock and awe mode. These works of art really please the masses with their vivid colors, decorative motifs, and abstract yet recognizable compositions. At least order the show catalogue if you can't make it to the MOMA.

Thank you Henri Matisse!

MATISSE AT THE MOMA!!

Not just any Matisse, my favorite Matisse!! And favorite works of art EVER. Ahhh!! I just got tickets to the Henri Matisse Jazz Cut Outs retrospective at the MOMA!!!

I feel like a little kid again, excited and waiting for Christmas ( I am going December 27th)....This show was recently in London and was the most successful show the Tate has ever put on....."Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs is a groundbreaking reassessment of this important body of work. The largest and most extensive presentation of the cut-outs ever mounted, the exhibition includes approximately 100 cut-outs—borrowed from public and private collections around the globe—along with a selection of related drawings, prints, illustrated books, stained glass, and textiles. The last time New York audiences were treated to an in-depth look at the cut-outs was in 1961."

Working with kiddies

This summer I had the privilege of becoming the Director of the Craft House at the Boys and Girls Club of Bay View, Michigan.  It was an excellent success, working with wood ,textiles, glue, paint, beads, and thousands of materials collected from donations from over the years.

Electric Forest prints available on Etsy. These screen prints were inspired from the amazing music festival, The Electric Forest, in Rothbury Michigan that I have attended the last three summers. There is nothing in the world like the forest. Check it out if you have time next June!
